Claim Your Inheritance

“Meanwhile, the older son was in the field. When he came near the house, he heard music and dancing. So he called one of the servants and asked him what was going on. ‘Your brother has come,’ he replied, ‘and your father has killed the fattened calf because he has him back safe and sound.’ “The older brother became angry and refused to go in. So his father went out and pleaded with him. But he answered his father, ‘Look! All these years I’ve been slaving for you and never disobeyed your orders. Yet you never gave me even a young goat so I could celebrate with my friends. But when this son of yours who has squandered your property with prostitutes comes home, you kill the fattened calf for him!’ “‘My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours. But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’” Luke 15:25-32 (New International Version, NIV)

Some people work for the Father and yet they don’t celebrate the Father ro enjoy all that belongs to them. They don’t lay claim to their inheritance.

Do you spend time with the Father but don’t enjoy all that belongs to the Father? Don’t go without when it’s available to you now. All that the Father has is ours now. Just ask the Father for what you desire. You have not because you ask not, so ask and receive.

This older son spent time with his father, but he was ignorant of what was available to him. He could have just asked his father and his father would have made known all that belonged to him. The prodigal son did, so the oldest son could have asked as well.

As we spend time with our heavenly Father, He will make known that all belonging to Him is ours too. Romans 8:17 says we are heirs of God. We are heirs now of all that belongs to our Father. I encourage you to read the epistles, especially the book of Ephesians to understand your inheritance and claim all that is yours now.
