Under The Son

I’d like to use a phrase coined by rock pioneer Larry Norman: “something new under the Son.” I say that knowing it’s true that Ecclesiastes states:

That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun. Ecclesiastes 1:9 (NKJV)

Under the old system of the world, life under the sun, life just goes on the same old way day after day. People get used to living in that world system that’s on the earth (under the sun). But, when we are born-again and we come under the Son, Jesus, we become new creations living in a different spiritual realm. We’ve become new under the Son. We pass from death to life and darkness to light. We change from a sinner to a saint, a sanctified one set apart for God.

As such, we live under a new Lord, in a new kingdom, and we have a new way of life- a life based on God’s Word. We’ve been delivered from the limitations put on us by the world system, which is the system controlled by satan. The old has passed away in our spirits and our spirits have become brand new according to II Corinthians 5:17.

We don’t have to be dominated by all the negative that goes on under the sun, but instead we can be dominated by the love and the good life we have under the Son, Christ Jesus. Living life under the Son will make our days better while we physically have to live under the sun in this earthly life. We can live life with meaning as we live for Jesus rather than for ourselves.

Under the Son, He gives us new desires, songs, vision, and direction. This means that in all we do, we include God in it.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man. Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV)

The conclusion is this: as we live under the Son, we fear and revere and worship God. We keep His commandments, being doers of the Word. This verse says this is the whole duty of man. In Hebrew, that statement would be better translated as this is the wholeness of mankind. This is in contrast to the emptiness and meaningless existence of not living for God. As we have a right relationship with God, it brings wholeness to us and our lives. In turn, that gives us meaning, purpose, and fulfillment. Life is truly worth living under the Son.
