Liar, Liar, Lake of Fire!

Liar, Liar, Lake of Fire!

And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever…. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:10, 14-15 (KJV)

When I was a child, whenever we found out that a friend or sibling had not been telling the truth, we would taunt them with “Liar, liar, pants on fire!” And to be honest, every time I read about the devil being cast into the lake of fire, that same phrase comes back to mind, but with a slight change- “Liar, liar, lake of fire!”

The devil does not have a good future at all. He will be tormented forever in a lake that is burning with fire. And he deserves it! To be honest, it is difficult to imagine a lake of fire. The only thing that comes close in my mind is a lake of molten lava, but I’m sure the actual lake of fire is much worse than anything a volcano could produce.

The lake of fire is mentioned in Revelation 20 as the final destination for the devil, the beast, and the false prophet. However, it is also noted as being the place where death and hell are cast. This means that anyone who refused to accept Jesus as their savior will not only be put into hell, but they will eventually end up in the lake of fire, which has to be even worse than hell itself.

We cheer with glee at the thought of the devil being put into a place like the lake of fire, but we should have a different mindset when it comes to unrepentant sinners going there. According to II Peter 3:9, God’s will is that no person perish. He doesn’t want any person going to hell, and ultimately, to the lake of fire. And we shouldn’t either.

This is why it is so important that we tell everyone we know about Jesus and how He has changed our lives. By witnessing to others, we can decrease the final population of hell and the lake of fire, rescuing them from an eternity of the most horrible agony. Our cry to the unsaved should be “Jesus loves you and can save you from death, hell, and the lake of fire!” rather than “Liar, liar, lake of fire!”
