Promises, Promises

Promises, Promises

For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us. II Corinthians 1:20 (KJV)

The word promise in the Greek means an announcement, assent, pledge, a divine assurance of God, a message or promise. In this verse, it is in the plural, meaning more than one- all of the promises of God.- just as it says.

For all of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory. II Corinthians 1:20 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Amen means so be it. We affirm our belief in God and His promises. we are agreeing with God and agreeing to all His promises. In this, we cooperate with God to see the fulfillment of the promises. God’s promises don’t happen automatically. Just as we have to decide and act in order to eat, drink, etc., we must decide and act to partake of God’s promises.

That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises. Hebrews 6:12 (KJV)

For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. Hebrews 10:36 (KJV)

God’s promises are a guarantee that God will do what He said. However, we must believe and be patient to obtain the promises. For every problem in life, God has abundantly supplied promises. Though problems may seem overwhelming, we have more promises than problems. So, take God’s promises and overwhelm every problem that may try to come your way.

A promise from God is an assurance, a word, a hope, and agreement. We can est assured in God’s promises for our lives. As we read, study, know, and claim the promises to our lives, we will experience them.

I am listing just some of the many promises found in the Bible:

  • Eternal life: John 3:15-16

  • The Holy Spirit: Acts 2:4, Acts 3:19-20

  • God’s presence: Psalm 16:11

  • God’s power: Acts 1:8, Acts 2:38-39

  • God’s provision: Philippians 4:19

  • God’s protection: Psalm 91

  • God’s healing: I Peter 2:24

  • A good life: Jeremiah 29:11, John 10:10, I Peter 3:10

  • Love, joy, peace, and all the gifts of the Spirit: Galatians 5:22-23

  • God Himself: Ephesians 2:18

I encourage you to look up and find more of God’s promises for yourself. The pleasure of experiencing God’s promises far exceeds any effort we may make to know and obtain them.
