In A Day

Hear now, O Joshua the high priest, thou, and thy fellows that sit before thee: for they are men wondered at: for, behold, I will bring forth my servant the Branch. For behold the stone that I have laid before Joshua; upon one stone shall be seven eyes: behold, I will engrave the graving thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity of that land in one day. Zechariah 3:8-9 (KJV)

Throughout the books of the prophets, God would use the phrase “in that day” over and over when speaking of God’s actions, interventions, judgments, and restoration. The Branch refers to Jesus, who would come and in one day, die on a cross to remove iniquity.

In that day there shall be a fountain opened to the house of David and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem for sin and for uncleanness. Zechariah 13:1 (KJV) emphasis mine

Jesus is the fountain that was spoken of by Zechariah. He had seven places on His body that were opened and blood poured out. Thus, a fountain of blood was opened and redemption poured forth to wash our sins away and make us clean. Again, God did this in a day.

This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it. Save now, I beseech thee, O Lord: O Lord, I beseech thee, send now prosperity. Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the Lord: we have blessed you out of the house of the Lord. God is the Lord, which hath shewed us light: bind the sacrifice with cords, even unto the horns of the altar. Psalm 118:24-27 (KJV) emphasis mine

“This is the day” speaks of the day of salvation- the day that Jesus died. Christ the sacrifice was bound to the cross, the altar. If you look closely at Psalm 118, you will recognize how much it points to the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ.

My point is that God only needs one day to turn things around for us. In a single day, we will see all that God has been doing behind the scenes to save mankind, both in Jesus’ day and now. God is working out His plan of salvation for us today. The best is yet to come. We will see God turn things around in a day and our latter end will be better than all we’ve gone through. Hang in there- pay day is coming.

All through Scripture, God did amazing things in a single day. Pharaoh was defeated in a day. Daniel was delivered from the lions in a day. After being dead for three days, Jesus was raised in a single day. We may be going through a death process of sorts, but in a day, God will bring new life.
