Give Thanks Unto The Lord

Give Thanks Unto The Lord

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the Lord, and to sing praises unto thy name, O Most High: Psalm 92:1 (KJV)

Today is Thanksgiving Day in the United States. Thanksgiving was originally a celebration by the early settlers of our nation to give thanks to God for His faithfulness and goodness to them and for providing for them. Notice that, like the verse above states, they gave thanks to the Lord God, their Creator and Provider, for their many blessings.

Strangely, today even though Thanksgiving is still observed with family gatherings and festive occasions, God has been somehow removed from the equation. Many people reflect on the good things they have been given and for the blessings received, but many do not attribute those things to God. It’s odd actually, but many people use the day to be thankful in general but do not acknowledge that what they are thankful for came from the Lord. It’s very difficult for me to fathom this, but it seems to be the case. How can one give thanks without giving that thanks to someone?

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, James 1:17 (KJV)

We don’t have to be like that. As believers, we know that all good things come from God, our heavenly Father. As we reflect upon the blessings bestowed upon us, we can turn our hearts to the Lord God who made heaven and earth and freely gave us all things to enjoy. Let’s consider the price that has been paid so we can be in relationship with our Father and express our never-ending gratitude to Jesus for His sacrifice. Let’s thank the Father for providing for our every need. And let’s not forget to thank the Holy Spirit for His continual presence, guidance, and love. Today and every day, let us give thanks UNTO THE LORD.

We want you to know that Jim and I thank God for you, our readers, and wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving Day!
