God's Word Produces Worship

God's Word Produces Worship

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. Colossians 3:16 (KJV)

The more time we spend in God’s Word, letting the Word get in us and dwell in us, the more the Word reveals Christ to us. As we see Him more and more, God’s Word will birth worship in us; worship for the One we’re seeing in the Word. Worship will come alive as our response to the Living Word: Jesus Christ. Jesus and the Word are One and the same. The Word produces psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs in us and for us to God.

Psalms are songs of praise; Scripture lyrics in song. The more we are in the Word, the more it prompts us to sing the Word. As we come to know and love the Word, the more our songs will flow out containing the Word.

Hymns are humanly-inspired lyrics in songs, based on the Scriptures. This is a good way to learn and memorize God’s Word.

Spiritual songs are songs given to us by the Holy Spirit. In this, our worship becomes more spontaneous- it is us singing to God and God singing to us.

All of these types of songs are produced by and based on the Word of God and the One who is the Word. He gave us His Word and we sing it back to Him. And this happens all because the Word birthed love in us and we give that love back to God in song.
