Reprogramming

Yesterday Jim wrote a marvelous article about getting out of your mind. Our minds can get in the way of our receiving from God, especially if our minds are unrenewed and carnal. The mind that has not been renewed, or reprogrammed, to the Word of God, will always hinder us from walking in the fullness of all God has for us.

So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. Romans 8:6-7 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Throughout our lives we’ve been mentally programmed to think a certain way. The world’s way of thinking is in direct contradiction to God’s way of thinking. Worldly thinking says, “I won’t believe it until I see it, rather than “I believe it, and it will come to pass.” Carnal logic says “Keep what you have in order to avoid poverty,” but God’s thinking tells us that “Giving causes us to increase.” The lower nature says that sickness is just a part of life, but the spiritual person knows that sickness is not entitled to enter his body. Wrong thoughts have been repeated over and over to us and by us, and they’ve become entrenched in our minds. Therefore, we have to undergo rigorous reprogramming in order to break free of wrong mindsets.

When we become engulfed in the Word of God: reading it, hearing it, and speaking it, our minds cannot help but be transformed. The Word has a supernatural ability to change us from the inside-out.

God's word is living and full of power. It is more sharp than any sword that cuts on both sides. What God says cuts through and divides the mind and spirit. It cuts through and divides the place where the bones are joined, and the part inside the bone. What God says is able to judge the things people think and plan in their hearts. Hebrews 4:12 (Worldwide English New Testament, WE)

In combination with this, we have the ability to speak in tongues. Tongues is the only language that totally bypasses the mind and comes directly from our spirits. When we speak and pray in tongues, we speak the perfect will of God and our minds cannot hinder it. To prove that tongues bypasses your mind, think of anything you want while you pray out loud in the Holy Ghost. You can direct your thoughts any way you wish while still praying in tongues. We cannot do this while speaking our own native language.

By reprogramming our minds to the Word and using tongues to speak without the hindrance of wrong thoughts, we can advance in the kingdom of God and grow and mature in the things of the Lord.
