Always Pursuing, Never Possessing

Always Pursuing, Never Possessing

Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. II Timothy 3:7 (KJV)

Let your character or moral disposition be free from love of money [including greed, avarice, lust, and craving for earthly possessions] and be satisfied with your present [circumstances and with what you have]; for He [God] Himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up nor leave you without support. [I will] not, [I will] not, [I will] not in any degree leave you helpless nor forsake nor let [you] down (relax My hold on you)! [Assuredly not!] Hebrews 13:5 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

There are people who appear in the natural to have it all- fame, money, power. Yet, in reality they have nothing of real significance. That’s why we see so many celebrities living lives of depravity and fleshly activity. They are always chasing after something to satisfy an internal hunger they have. They try one thing and it doesn’t satisfy, so they try another. And on and on it goes. They move from one sick, sinful activity to an even sicker one. They sink lower and lower, feeding the flesh and reaping only what the flesh can produce: destruction. And the lower they go, the more the flesh takes over and they become more like animals than human beings.

For the one who sows to his flesh [his sinful capacity, his worldliness, his disgraceful impulses] will reap from the flesh ruin and destruction, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. Galatians 6:8 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

We also have seen people who have spent their time pursuing wordly knowledge. Many of our halls of academia are filled with people who have accumulated excessive amounts of knowledge but lack the wisdom that comes from the knowledge of the Lord. And the more they learn, the less they really know. The truth seems to evade them because they seek for the wisdom that comes from below and is carnal and worldly.

The people I have mentioned are just two examples of many people today who try to fill the void in their hearts with the wrong things. They pursue something and they don’t even know what they are pursuing. What they seek is the satisfaction, fulfillment, peace and sense of wellbeing that comes from knowing God personally.

Some people don’t see their need for God because they are ignorant. They have not been presented with the truth of the Gospel or they have not heard it enough for it to penetrate. Others chase after wrong things because they refuse to surrender to God. Instead, they resist Him and run hard in the opposite direction. Regardless of the reason that they are not seeking after God, all of their outcomes will be the same if they do not change direction- destruction.

People without God may appear to have it all together but inside they are the emptiest, most miserable of all creatures. All the knowledge, power, wealth, and influence can never substitute for God. As Christians, we must be in prayer for the ungodly. We must decree that the devil’s hold is removed from their lives, that the blinders are removed from their eyes, that their hearts are prepared to receive, and that God brings laborers across their paths. We must speak them out of the kingdom of darkness into the Kingdom of God’s dear Son.

If you have “stumbled” across this post and you have been pursuing everything except God, then it is no accident you found this article. You will never have the inner peace and satisfaction you desperately desire unless you receive the only One who can give it to you. It isn’t difficult to move from darkness to light, from emptiness and dissatisfaction to contentment and fulfillment. You simply have to accept Jesus Christ, the Son of God who died in your place to pay the sin debt that you could not pay.

Just pray this out loud and with sincerity: “God, I come to You in the name of Jesus and I admit that I am a sinner. I turn from my sin and turn to your Son, Jesus Christ. I know He died for me and rose again to save me from my sins. I receive Him as my Savior and Lord. I am now a child of God and I will live for You the rest of my life. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to live the way that brings glory to You. Amen.”

If you prayed that prayer, you have been born again and you have become a child of God Himself. You have just severed all ties with the devil and with the things of the evil one. Welcome to the family of God. Find a church that teaches from the Bible and go regularly. Get a Bible and begin reading it daily. And begin to talk to God. The lines of communication are open and you can come to the Lord in prayer at any time. Congratulations, you have just possessed what you have been pursuing all your life!
