Don't Let Anything Stop You

On that day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let us go across to the other side.” And leaving the crowd, they took him with them in the boat, just as he was. And other boats were with him. And a great windstorm arose, and the waves were breaking into the boat, so that the boat was already filling. But he was in the stern, asleep on the cushion. And they woke him and said to him, “Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?” And he awoke and rebuked the wind and said to the sea, “Peace! Be still!” And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. He said to them, “Why are you so afraid? Have you still no faith?” And they were filled with great fear and said to one another, “Who then is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?” Mark 4:35-41 (English Standard Version, ESV)

Storms in life will arise, and when they do, we must arise and speak peace to them. We aren’t to speak how bad the storm is or we won’t make it. Instead, rise up and take authority over any storm that comes. Jesus had already said in verse 35 “let’s go to the other side.” He had established what they were going to do, and the storm came to challenge His word. When storms come to us, we have to keep speaking the Word of God to get through them, because that is the only sure-fire way to beat a storm.

In James 3, we read that the tongue is like the rudder of a ship that keeps its course straight. When storms come, we take authority over them by speaking the Word to them. We say “Peace, be still!,” and we do not allow fear to steal our faith. As we do, we keep to our designated course.

We must see each storm as an opportunity to arise in Christ and use our faith and authority to overcome it. As we do, the storms will calm and we will gain experience with God, seeing faith and authority work for us. We are not to be intimidated by the storm. There is no storm bigger than God.

Speak peace to the storm and order will be restored to your life, and you will get where you are going, just like Jesus and the disciples did. God’s spoken Word has the power to bring things to pass and to thwart the plans of the enemy.

As Jesus spoke, the wind ceased and there was a great calm. Then He asked the disciples why they were so fearful. He wanted to know why they had no faith. Fear will atempt to steal or derail faith. Stop it before it stops you. Rise above it. You have authority and rulership over it. You are not subject to the storm; it is subject to you in Jesus’ Name!

Mark 5:1 tells us that Jesus and the disciples made it over to the other side, just as Jesus said. Speaking God’s Word will cause us to overcome any storm victorously and we, too, will make it to the other side. God’s expectation is not that the storm prevents us from doing and being what He has called, but that we rise above the storm and get where we are going. Don’t let anything to stop you from reaching your destination.
