“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6:24 (NIV)
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. I Timothy 6:10 (NIV)
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5 (NIV)
Money; we use it to live on, to buy things, to sell things. Money in and of itself is neither good nor evil- it is just a natural substance. It is what one does with it- whether we use it to help or harm, to advance God’s kingdom or the kingdom of darkness- that makes it good or bad. Although money can buy many things, it cannot buy everything. Things like salvation, joy, peace, etc. are not bought and sold.
People laugh at a dinner party. And wine makes life happy. People think money can buy everything. Ecclesiastes 10:19 (New International Readers Version, NIRV)
Granted, money can help you get many things that you want or need in this world, but it has limits. Only God can give you what you need spiritually, materially, in every way. We need to use our money to access things that will help us know and draw closer to God, like Bibles, Christian books, worship music, Bible teaching CDs and DVDs, Bible courses, Christian teaching conferences, and the like. We are also to use money to bless others and help those in need, and we are not to use people to get money.
We can use money to hurt or help people. The best investment for our money is to sow it into God’s work. When we put our money in God’s hands, we will get the best return on our investment, because He will multiply it for His kingdom and to meet our needs.
Always love God more than money and you’ll be just fine. If you need money, ask Him for it. He will bring income to you, as well as ways to earn money by working. Then, tithe and give some, save some and wisely spend some- let God lead you in the financial realm.
Wisdom is even better when you have money. Both are a benefit as you go through life. Wisdom and money can get you almost anything, but only wisdom can save your life. Ecclesiastes 7:11-12 (New Living Translation, NLT)
Manage money and don’t let money manage you. Use your life to accumulate eternal wealth, not the worldy wealth that will someday be gone.
