The Best Rest

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Matthew 11:28-30 (KJV)

For we who have believed (adhered to and trusted in and relied on God) do enter that rest, in accordance with His declaration that those [who did not believe] should not enter when He said, As I swore in My wrath, They shall not enter My rest; and this He said although [His] works had been completed and prepared [and waiting for all who would believe] from the foundation of the world. Hebrews 4:3 (AMPC)

When we trust God’s Word and believe what He has promised, we let go of worrying, reasoning, and trying to figure out how things will work out. As we believe God, we rest in Him. We know that we don’t have any idea how things will go, but we know the One who knows. God is the only One who really knows how to work out everything so that it ends up being for our good while giving Him glory at the same time. It goes contrary to logic and reason, which long to figure everything out, but that how the things of God usually are. After all, if we could figure everything out, why would we need God?

Our thoughts can be at peace when we think on His promises and not on the problem. Our emotions can be calm and settled down- not taking us on an emotional rollercoaster ride. When our wills are surrendered to God’s will, we are more stable. We gain the most benefit when we are not fighting God for our own way, but following His will.

We can easily tell when we are in the rest of God. We experience no worry, no confusion, no stress. God’s Word is our confidence and it brings us ultimate rest. Give it a try. Quit over-thinking things and relax in the care of God. It really is the best rest.
