Delight in God and Watch Him Act

Good overcomes evil. Psalm 37 tells us this.

Do not fret because of those who are evil or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away. Psalm 37:1-2 (New International Version, NIV)

Don’t be upset or worry about people who do evil, whose hearts are evil. People who do you wrong won’t last. They will be like the grass that is here today and gone tomorrow.

Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Psalm 37:3 (New International Version, NIV)

The right response to evildoers is to trust God and do good. If we do what is right, God will keep us safe, and we will not be moved.

Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. Psalm 37:4 (New International Version, NIV)

Delight, or take your pleasure, in God. Find your delight in Him. Don’t get distracted by all the evil and all that evildoers do. Find pleasure in God, not in the pain of people caused by those who are wicked. Delight in God, and He will give you what your heart desires. Your righteous desires will be granted if you trust in God and reject evil.

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteous reward shine like the dawn, your vindication like the noonday sun. Psalm 37:5-6 (New International Version, NIV)

Commit and trust it all to God. Trust God with everything you do and everywhere you go. God will make things right. He will give you justice. You will be rewarded.

Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes. Psalm 37:7 (New International Version, NIV)

Be still, calm, and quiet before the Lord. Wait patiently for Him to act. God’s got this. No matter how things look, don’t get impatient or fret. As we wait, God works. Even if it looks like evil is winning, don’t go by what you see, but wait in faith for God’s promised outcome.

Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret—it leads only to evil. Psalm 37:8 (New International Version, NIV)

Guard your thoughts and put a check on your emotions. Keep from getting angry. It is always wrong to act hastily and out of emotions. God is really pointing out that fret and worry are not good for us as He has mentioned fretting more than once in this Psalm. We’ve heard the saying that haste makes waste. Instead, know that God gives grace. Act with grace, not in haste.

For those who are evil will be destroyed, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land. Psalm 37:9 (New International Version, NIV)

We will see evil cut off, but those who hope in the Lord will inherit the land. As we saw in verse 6, God will gives us a bright life and our righteousness will shine like the dawn. Things will get brighter and brighter. We will inherit what God planned all along. We will take back the land! We will bring God’s will and His kingdom rule to Earth now as we do the Word and enforce His Word in our lives. Proverbs 10 agrees with this.

What the wicked dread will overtake them; what the righteous desire will be granted. When the storm has swept by, the wicked are gone, but the righteous stand firm forever. Proverbs 10:24-25 (New International Version, NIV)
