Use Your Spiritual Side to Overcome Your Natural Side

Use Your Spiritual Side to Overcome Your Natural Side

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. II Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh…. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law…. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Galatians 5:16, 22-23, 25 (KJV)

Use your spiritual side to overcome your natural side. Our spiritual side is our new creation; our born-again spirit that is born of God. This is where the fruit of the Spirit resides in us. Our natural side is our human side that we have to deal with.

How will we treat others? Will we do it from our born-again spirit where God dwells? God is love and if we act from our spirit, we act in love. Or, will we act from our natural side where we try to deal with things through our own natural abilities; that which we’ve learned by schooling, life experiences, and so forth? This will only take us so far. We must live deeper and be deeper Christians. We do this by spending more quality time in the Word and in His presence. The more we feed our spirit, the stronger it becomes.

When someone speaks harshly to us, we must be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to respond in wrath. The flesh wants to strike back- quick and sharp. we might feel better for a time but it only makes things worse on our selves and others.

The better way is to walk in God’s way, doing what God says in His Word. We overcome evil with good. The more we choose to do things God’s way, the more we grow in God- and the better our lives will eventually become.

Make it easier on yourself. Life is hard enough, so we don’t need to make it harder by trying to do life in our own natural strength. Rely on God and watch Him grow you and make your life better. He’ll make it a life worth living, full of love, peace, and joy.
