Nonstop; Without Ceasing

Pray without ceasing. I Thessalonians 5:17 (KJV)

Pray in the original Greek means to speak out or utter aloud. It is the Greek word proseuchomai and is always used in reference to prayer to God- and God alone. Spiros Zodhiates notes that whether for the obtaining of good or the preventing of evil, prayer means to ask or give thanks. We are to do this without interruption, without stopping, without taking a break.

Paul tells us to pray without ceasing. What exactly does this entail? Here are a few thoughts on that:

  • Stay in constant communion and fellowship with God. Maintain a constant heart connection with Him.

  • Practice God’s presence continually.

  • Keep your thoughts on God. Be conscious of Him at all times.

  • Have God conversations in our hearts, maintaining an attitude of prayer. Never stop praying.

  • Keep in constant communication with the Lord, both listening and talking to Him.

  • Cease not from praying. Prioritize communication with God over other things.

Relationship is built on communication and fellowship. During work, during play, and at all times, pray and never stop praying, to know, hear, talk, and love God always and forever.
