Having Power With God

The Scriptures reveal people who had power with God. How did they have power? And why did they have it?

Moses had power with God. He could bring judgment on Egypt and intercede for Israel to be spared. He talked with God in-person and received the Law from Him. He had power with God, and one reason he did was because he spent time with God.

Elijah and Elisha both had power with God. They confronted kings and false prophets. They performed great miracles like raising the dead and multiplying oil. Elijah was anointed and Elisha received a double portion of that anointing because he was in a position to receive it. We can do the same.

And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness…. The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. Luke 4:1, 18-19 (KJV)

Jesus had power with God (and He still does). He always did what pleased the Father. He was filled and anointed with the Holy Spirit to teach and preach God’s word, work miracles, heal the sick, cast out devils, raise the dead, and confront hypocritical people. Jesus received power from God to do the works of God. We can do the same things in our day and time.

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12 (KJV)

God gives us power and ability to become His child. We become His children by believing on Jesus and being saved. This is being born of the Spirit. This puts us in the position to be able to use Jesus’ name to do the works of Jesus.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. John 14:12 (KJV)

But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8 (KJV)

When we receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit, which is separate from being born of the Spirit, the Holy Spirit comes upon us, clothing us with power. Then we have the ability to do the greater works of Jesus. As our hearts are right with God, living to please the Father, willing to pay the price for the anointing and to use the power properly, we have power with God. As we pray, seek God, love Him, and obey Him, surrendering to his will, that power increases. We’ll walk in the same power as Moses, Elijah, Elisha, and even Jesus because it is the same God working through us.

Believe God’s Word, act on it, pray the Word, speak it, and praise the Lord according to the Word, and you will see God’s power working in, through, and for you. As you speak the name of Jesus, power will be released for miracles, signs, and wonders. And by this, Jesus and His name will be made known.
