You're More Than Your Thoughts
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled. II Corinthians 10:3-6 (KJV)
These verses tell us that a war goes on in our minds. That war is for control of our minds. God, satan, and the world all want our minds. The mind controls one’s life, because your life goes in the direction of your thoughts.
Weapons refers to strategies. Our strategies are not carnal, or natural, but they are mighty and powerful to cast down imaginations, or reasonings, and every high thing, even wrong thoughts, that are contrary to God’s Word (the knowledge of God). We must bring every thought into captivity. Take wrong thoughts captive so they don’t take you captive. Cast down wrong thoughts by speaking God’s Word and replacing those thoughts with thoughts that line up with the Bible. As you speak the right thing, you will begin to think the right thoughts. This is because you’ll be thinking on the Word of God. This makes every thought obey Christ, so you’ll be obedient to Him as well.
When wrong thoughts come against your mind, which happens to us all, remember that you’re more than your thoughts. Just because a thought comes to you, you do not have to entertain it, and you don’t have to let it define you. You are a born-again spirit being. Wrong thoughts don’t dictate who you are, what you can or can’t do, and what you can or cannot have. So, get out of your head. Don’t live life from your head, but from your spirit.
Use your mind to think right and to make right decisions. You can pick and choose the thoughts you keep. Remember- you are more than any wrong thoughts that come your way. Get beyond wrong thoughts. Don’t let them hold you down or hold you back. Think on God’s Word, and speak and act on it.
As you take in God’s Word, reading, studying, and thinking on it, you’ll speak it out and act upon it. You can go beyond negative thoughts and become more than what thoughts try to tell you that you are. While it is true that as one thinks, so is he (Proverbs 23:7), you are more than just thoughts. God made us spirit, soul, and body. As we feed on and do God’s Word, we take on God’s thoughts, meaning we think with the mind of Christ and go beyond human thinking. As this happens, you’ll think like God thinks- with no limits.
