A Song of Love

A Song of Love

The song of songs, which is Solomon's. Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee. Song of Songs 1:1-4 (KJV)

This verse from Song of Songs, or Song of Solomon as some have titled it, is a love song. It is a bridegroom and his bride singing and expressing their love to one another.

The bridegroom represents Jesus, and the bride symbolizes the church. Both are shown to be singing their love to each other Ephesians 5:19 tells of speaking and singing spiritual songs to yourselves. This means this expression of love can be spoken or sung. Spiritual songs can be spotaneous. Love is to be spontaneous.

Saying, I will declare thy name unto my brethren, in the midst of the church will I sing praise unto thee. Hebrews 2:12 (KJV)

Jesus praises the Father in and through the church; done through love songs.

Song of Songs 1:2 says “Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth.” Psalm 2:12 says, “Kiss the Son.” We can kiss Jesus, the Son, as we sing to Him and He sings to us. Romans 61:16 tells us to greet one another with a holy kiss. God is holy. we are to be holy and our love is to be holy. Thus, we can kiss the Lord with a holy kiss in worship.

Song of Songs also says, “They love is better than wine.” As we worship we are filled with holy love that is better than wine, more intoxicating than wine. In Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost, the apostles were accused of being drunk with new wine, but it was the Holy Spirit. When we sing to God and He sings to us, He fills us and refills us with His Spirit. Thus, we can get intoxicated with God’s love.

Song of Songs 1:3 says “Thy name is as ointment poured forth.” When we speak the name of Jesus Christ, we speak of the Savior (Jesus), the Anointed One (Christ). We release the Anointed One and His anointing by speaking His name. Jesus pours His anointing on us, and we pour that anointing back on Him as we worship. Truly, a love affair is going on between us, the Bride, and Jesus, the Bridegrroom.

Take me with you; come, let’s run! The king has brought me into his bedroom. Song of Songs 1:4 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Jesus draws us so we wil run after Him. We pursue Him until he draws us into His chamber, the place of intimacy, closeness, love, and relationship. Our love and worship bring us to a place of intimacy with Jesus, our King. As we worship, with us singing to Him and Him singing to us, intimate love takes place. We enjoy each other’s loving embrace.

God is calling us to come closer to Him. He is singing to our hearts. Will we respond?
