Let The Rebuilding Begin
And I went out by night by the gate of the valley, even before the dragon well, and to the dung port, and viewed the walls of Jerusalem, which were broken down, and the gates thereof were consumed with fire. Nehemiah 2:13 (KJV)
This verse is a picture of the destruction by the enemy. Nehemiah went out at night. Night speaks of darkness. We must overcome the darkness. We can’t let the darkness stop us from obeying God and doing His work.
He looked at the Valley gate. Gates speak of openings and entrances and the valley speaks of a low place. Things open up to us and allow us to be led through the valley. In our low times God is with us, leading us on to better things.
Nehemiah was inspecting the work of the enemy. Yet, he had in his mind to do God’s work; to rebuild the walls and put the gates up. He came to the dragon’s well. The dragon is a type of satan (Revelation 12:7-9). The devil comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but in the midst of it all, Jesus comes to give life and life more abundantly (John 10:10).
He went to inspect the dung port, or the dung gate. This was the gate that led to the valley where they burned the refuse. This valley is a type of hell. No matter what hell does, it will not prevail aginst the church (Matthew 16:18)
Jerusalem’s walls were broken down. Remember that whatever the enemy breaks down, God builds back up. The gates had been consumed with fire. Whatever the devil has burned and destroyed in our lives, God will replace with new. The Bible says that the wall was finished in 52 days (Nehemiah 6:15). This shows that anything the enemy had destroyed can be restored by God. God can do a quick work to make things new again, and evern better than before.
Noe that Nehemiah 6:15 syas wall, but Nehemiah 2:13 says walls. We are all one in Christ, yet the enemy comes to divide and break us up. God comes to put the pieces back together and make us one again.
No matter what things look like right now, God is working and when He is finished, that which He builds with our cooperation will stand and last. God is rebuilding us and our world, making our lives better than before. Let the rebuilding begin!
