Stay Salty

“You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Matthew 5:13 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Jesus calls his followers the salt of the earth. Salt gives flavor and salt preserves.

Salt is one of the most common spices used around the world to give additional flavor to food. As Christians, we are to bring out flavor in people wherever we go. We have the love of God that enhances any person’s life and brings out the best in them, making the all that God intended- just as salt enhances food and makes it the best it can be to the palate. When we demonstrate the love of God, we are making their lives even better. Life just tastes better with God, and we can show people that.

Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! Psalm 34:8 (New Living Translation, NLT)

Salt has been used for thousands of years to preserve food and keep it from spoiling. It extends the life of meat and other foods. We are to be salt to this world, preserving it. As believers, we have the responsibility to preserve the people of the world through the love and power of Jesus Christ. It is only by the love of God and the power of the Holy Spirit that flows through us does the world have any real hope of lasting. Believers must not be afraid to sprinkle themselves liberally throughout the seven mountains of influence in the world. We are called to preserve this world and the people of the world by promoting the ways of God in the earth. We are not to hide who we are in Christ, but share it and spread it around. If we shrink back and fail to be the salt that the world needs, life will be bland and brief for the people of this planet. And if we do not do our part to flavor and preserve this world, it will go the way of satan.

We must keep our saltiness, staying in the Word and in the presence of God to maintain a passion for Him and His ways. We cannot afford to lose our saltiness. And we cannot refuse to be the flavor and preservative this world needs. Stay salty!
