Without Excuse

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge. They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world. In the heavens God has pitched a tent for the sun. Psalm 19:1-4 (New International Version, NIV)

Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice? “To you, O people, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind. Proverbs 8:1, 4 (New International Version, NIV)

Since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. Romans 1:19-20 (New International Version, NIV)

There’s evidence all around us of the existence of God. We see it in His creation- the heavens, the skies, and all He has made. Each and everyday, the creation testifies before the whole earth to the reality of the Lord God. Wisdom cries out from God to every heart, raising her voice to all mankind. What is made plain to all by God’s creation is there for all to see. God’s invisible qualities are made known by the things He has made. It all bears witness to His eternal power and divine nature. Therefore, all are without excuse.

for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them) in the day when God will judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel. Romans 2:14-16 (NKJV)

God has put in every heart a knowledge that God is and has given them a desire to know Him. Whether it is acknowledged by everyone or not, each person knows deep in their heart that there is a divine Creator. The whole of God’s creation tells any thinking person that God is real and that He created all that we see. The human body itself demonstrates that Someone with higher intelligence designed and created man, with his complex bodily functions. Consider the form and function just of the human eye. Who else but God could come up with it?

All beginnings have their origin in God, who is the beginning and the end. He Himself has no beginning or end. He is eternal and self-existent. He exists all by Himself and within Himself. God is God all by Himself. The eternal God created the temporal- that which we see- by speaking it into existence (Hebrews 11:3). He upholds all things by the power of His spoken Word.

The theory of evolution denies God. Note it is and has always been a theory. There is not one solid piece of evidence to back it up. It takes less faith to believe in the existence of the Creator God than it does to believe that every living thing evolved into its present state from a single-celled blob. But, evolution allows those who don’t want to accept that God exists to be his or her own god. As such, they believe they are accountable to no one but themselves for the way they live. They think they are not accountable to the Creator and thus will not experience any judgment. But God does exist and we will all give an account to God. One day, all will see that God is and that He is the the Creator and ultimate Judge.

He is the Creator of all good things and He is only good. Jesus is Lord, and one day all will bend their knee to Him and confess His lordship. He created all things for Himself to bring Him glory… and that includes you and me.

For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: Colossians 1:16 (KJV)

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Revelation 4:11 (KJV)
