The Blood, The Water, and The Bride

The Blood, The Water, and The Bride

But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs: But one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith came there out blood and water. John 19:33-34 (KJV)

Each place where Jesus’ blood flowed forth has significant meaning. Have you ever wondered why Jesus’ side was pierced with a sword? The blood and water flowed from His side to draw us back to His side.

And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. Genesis 2:21-22 (KJV)

As Eve was brought from Adam’s side, the purchased bride of Christ came from His side. The wound on His side shows how dear we are to Him. Blood and water flowed from it. His death bought us back and washed us clean. The blood speaks of the sacrifice and His substitution for His bride. The water speaks of the washing of the water of the Word. Jesus is the Word made flesh, and He has cleansed His bride and made her ready for the Marriage Supper of the Lamb.

He wants us right next to Him. He isn’t ashamed of His bride, but He purchased and clothed her in a pure white garment. She is righteous and beautiful- and united with her Bridegroom to be by His side forever.

And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. Revelation 19:8 (KJV)
