A Word About Fatigue

Fatigue in some form or fashion is common to us all- whether it is mental, emotional, physical, or even spiritual. We must use wisdom to prevent fatigue as much as possible and also to avoid doing foolish or ill-advised things when we do happen to face fatigue.

I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me. Psalm 3:5 (KJV)

One common sense thing to do is to get the rest we need. It’s easy to say, “Be sure to get plenty of sleep,” but so many people are plagued by worry, stress, over-work. etc. that sleep often escapes them. So, the first thing we must do is to reduce stress and worry. Fear is the root cause of these. Worry is basically meditating on the things we fear. And stress comes as a result of being worried or fearful- usually of not being able to get something done or about the lack of resources or some similar issue. So, the simple truth is that we must change what we are thinking about. Instead of thinking about problems- or perceived problems- choose to meditate on the Word of God. When a worry or stressful thought tries to come to you, force your thoughts to think on a Bible verse instead. It may take some effort at first, but after you do this for a while, you will get to the point where it becomes automatic. And when you are fighting such thoughts, don’t be hesitant to use your mouth to take authority over the enemy. The Bible tells us the fear is a spirit, and we have authority over it in the Name of Jesus. Reducing mental turmoil, along with a few basic lifestyle changes such as avoiding electronic devices for a couple hours before bedtime and not consuming sugar or caffeine too late in the day, can help you get the rest you need.

And now, brethren, I commend you to God, and to the word of his grace, which is able to build you up, and to give you an inheritance among all them which are sanctified. Acts 20:32 (KJV) emphasis mine

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Jude 1:20 (KJV)

Fatigue is also stopped by staying in the Word and in prayer, especially praying in tongues. As we stay in these, we stay spiritually strong and we can avoid spiritual fatigue and burnout- as well as mental and emotional.

And finally, wisdom tells us that we should never make important decisions when we know we are fatigued.

We don’t have to continually battle fatigue and burnout. We can avoid fatigue if we make the attempt to stay rested and keep our minds focused on God.
