The Better Ways of God- Part 4

The Better Ways of God- Part 4

Some things are better than others. We have to see things from God’s perspective to understand what is truly better. Today we conclude our look at the word better in Scripture.

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him. And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Hebrews 1:1-8 (KJV) emphasis mine

This shows us that Jesus Christ is better than and high above the angels. Jesus Himself is God and has purged our sins. Angels are created beings, made by God, and are not to be worshiped. Jesus by His death, burial, and resurrection obtained a more excellent name- the Name above all names. Jesus is supreme. He is God and worthy of our worship.

But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. Hebrews 8:6 (KJV) emphasis mine

The law made no one perfect- it pointed out man’s weaknesses. However, because of a better sacrifice (Jesus), we have a better covenant and better promises. Through Christ we are made better and can claim the better covenant that includes all Jesus provided for us. What Jesus did has made us and our lives better than those who lived before Christ.

For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing. For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:… Who is gone into heaven, and is on the right hand of God; angels and authorities and powers being made subject unto him. I Peter 3;17-18, 22 (KJV) emphasis mine

The Bible tells us that believers will be persecuted for doing right. However, it is better for us to live for God than to side with evil to avoid persecution .It’s better to suffer for doing well than for doing evil. Christ suffered for us; to bring us to God. Christ overcame, and as we are in Him, we too overcome. Everything is subject to Christ, even those who persecute us. It’s better to be on the Lord’s side. As we overcome evil with good, God will use it to make us better. God will cause us to triumph over all evil!

Through this 4-part series we’ve seen that God’s ways are definitely better than ours. A simple walk through passages that include the word better shows us this. I encourage you to get out your Bible and a concordance and see what you learn by looking up a word and following it through the Scriptures.
