Acting on The Word Positions Us

Acting on The Word Positions Us

And leaving Nazareth, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, which is upon the sea coast, in the borders of Zabulon and Nephthalim: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles; The people which sat in darkness saw great light; and to them which sat in the region and shadow of death light is sprung up. Matthew 4:13-16 (KJV)

Jesus moved to Capernaum from his hometown to fulfill a prophecy spoken by Isaiah. He acted out the Word- both the written Word and the prophetic Word. He did this so it would be fulfilled and would impact others.

Throughout the Gospels we see examples of Jesus acting on words spoken out loud by the prophets and written down as a part of God’s Word. For example, Jesus acted on the words of Isaiah 42:7. He used the Word as a blueprint for his life and ministry.

To open the blind eyes, to bring out the prisoners from the prison, and them that sit in darkness out of the prison house. Isaiah 42:7 (KJV)

As we do the same thing, acting on both the written Word and on prophetic words, we position ourselves to be used of God. As we follow Jesus’ example wherever God sends us, we can make the same impact and have the same results. Or, as Jesus promised, even greater results.

Get with God so you can hear from Him and know what He wants you to do. Jesus was in constant contact with God and did nothing unless His Father told Him to. We see that in the fact that He used different methods to bring about healing. At times, He spoke. At other times, He laid hands on them. At other times, He put mud on them, and so forth. He didn’t do it by whim- He did it by God’s direction. We can’t just take a stab in the dark about how we are to act on the Word. We need God’s direction. Get His instruction. Then, as you act on both the written Word and the prophetic word, God will do great things.
