Come And Drink
On the third day there was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus also was invited to the wedding with his disciples. When the wine ran out, the mother of Jesus said to him, “They have no wine.” And Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does this have to do with me? My hour has not yet come.” His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.” Now there were six stone water jars there for the Jewish rites of purification, each holding twenty or thirty gallons. Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And he said to them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the feast.” So they took it. When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from (though the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee, and manifested his glory. And his disciples believed in him. On the third day of Jesus’ public ministry (after His baptism and time in the wilderness) there was a wedding. It is significant that this first miracle took place on the third day. He rose from the dead on the third day, then He breathed on His disciples and they were born again. A wedding speaks of celebration. On the third day when Jesus arose, there was great celebration. We are to celebrate Jesus. Jesus commented to His mother that His hour had not yet come, which was a reference to His crucifixion.
He had the servants take six stone water jars and fill them with water. Six is the biblical number that represents man since man was created on the sixth day. God breathed in Adam on the sixth day and he became a living soul. They filled the jars with water and it became wine. When we are born again, Jesus washes us with the water of the Word and fills us with the wine of the Holy Spirit. We are to draw from what Jesus has put in us and give it to thirsty souls so they can drink and be born again.
Like the first disciples, we can believe and see Jesus’ glory. Others, too, can experience first-hand the miracle of water turned into wine. Jesus turned us into new creations and filled us to overflowing with the Spirit.
Taste and see that the Lord is good to all who thirst. Come and drink of Jesus, and you’ll never thirst again!
