Harvests

Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need. Proverbs 21:13, (New Living Translation, NLT)

The law of sowing and reaping is always in operation. Creation operates on this principle. Whatever is sown must grow and produce a harvest after its own kind. In other words, the seed dictates the harvest. You can’t plant apple seeds and harvest peaches from it. It just doesn’t work that way.

So many of us think that we can do whatever we please and there will be no repercussions from it. But, rest assured, every person reaps what they have sown, both good and bad. For example, as the proverb above says, if we ignore the needs of others, our own needs will be ignored as well. It’s simple sowing and reaping in action.

Can we abort the harvest that we have coming? Yes, we can affect the outcome to a certain degree. For example, the person who has been sowing in faith to reap a harvest of financial prosperity can abort that seed by speaking continued words of doubt and unbelief. Someone who has been sowing to their flesh by eating too much should reap a harvest of bad health. However, they can repent, pray for healing, and turn their diet and lifestyle around, thus adding years back to their life.

Many harvests can be changed, but it takes committed faith and effort. It is much easier to simply sow the right seeds to begin with and stay firm in our confession about them.

If you’ve sown some bad seed, repent before the Lord, and start to speak words of blessing over your situation. Turn from your previous actions and go in a different direction. If you’ve sown good seed but you failed to to water and care for it with words of faith, repent and return to the positive faith confession you had before. Your harvest may be longer in coming, but if you do not give up, it will arrive.

As long as the earth remains, there will be planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night. Genesis 8:22 (New Living Translation, NLT)

The sowing of seed and the reaping of harvests will continue. We can dictate what we reap if we are wise in what we plant and water.
