Inner Healing- Part 1: Three Steps

Inner Healing- Part 1: Three Steps

Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed. I Peter 2:24 (KJV) emphasis mine

Jesus wants us whole; spirit, soul and body. If any part of us is broken, then we are not whole- something is missing. For any part of us to be healed, healthy, and whole, we have to take three steps.

Step 1: We must admit it.

We can’t be helped if we’re in denial. Some bury the pain and deny it so they do not have yto deal with it. For some of us, the pain is so severe that they don’t want to face it. We cannot heal that way. If we do not deal with hurts, we can’t get rid of them and their effects. We must admit the pain to start the healing process.

Step 2: We must confess it.

Once we admit that we’ve been hurt, admitting it to ourselves, then we must confess it, or acknowledge it. We’ve left the state of denial and we’re bringing the hurt to the light- we’re calling it out- so it can no longer hide in the dark. We say something like, “Yes I was hurt,” or “Yes, I am still hurting from that.” Confess it to God- lay it bare before Him. Then, confess it and share it with a mature Christian, such as your pastor or someone you know is a sincere brother or sister in the Lord.. Confessing the pain, the hurt, the wrong, brings things out in the open so it can be healed. And forgiving anyone who was a part of wronging you, incuding yourself, is a key part of this step.

Step 3: We must dismiss it.

Once we’ve admitted and confessed it, we can dismiss it and let it go. Once it has been brought into the open, don’t try to hold onto it. If we hold onto it, we never move on and we just continue to hurt, loing the progress we’ve made in the first two steps. Dismissing it is not denying that it never happened, but it is a denial to let it keep you in bondage. We cast our cares onto the Jesus, knowing He loves and cares for us. Then we receive His love, and trust Him to heal every hurt and make right each wrong. He’ll lead us out of the pain and into wholeness, taking us into the good life He has planned for us.

God has given us steps to heal us inside and out. With inner healing, we make peace with ourselves and with the past. With each step we take, God will make us more healed, healthy, and happy.
