All Glory to The Lord

All Glory to The Lord

Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth's sake. Psalm 115:1 (KJV)

We see that God is present and active by His mercy and truth in our lives. Mercy can also be translated as love, so God’s love and truth are indications that He is with us. Because He is with us, we are to give Him glory.

The word Lord is the Hebrew word Yahweh, which is often rendered Jehovah, meaning self-existent or eternal. The word glory is the Hebrew word kabod, which means honor, glory, majesty, wealth, reputation, respect, position, importance. No matter who we are, no matter what we do, no matter how many people know our names or applaud us, we must remember the Lord is self-existent and alone is worthy of all glory. The honor and respect belong to Him. We are what we are and we have what we have by His name and not our own. Victory, blessings, favor, salvation are all ours because of the Lord’s mercy, His everlasting covenant love. Lift up God’s name and not your own.

It is because of God that we are what we are and have what we have. We are not smart, beautiful, quick, creative, or anything good without it being bestowed on us by God. Whatever praise we get from man is not ours to receive. Be sure not to take credit, but acknowledge that it all comes from God. Therefore give the glory to the Lord

Because of His truth, we know the Lord God; we know Him and His power. Truth will keep us from being deceived into thinking it’s all us or all about us. His truth reveals it is all God. The Lord alone is worthy and deserving of all glory, so give all the glory to Him.
