The Acceptable Time
(For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.) II Corinthians 6:2 (KJV)
The Apostle Paul here is quoting Isaiah the prophet. Isaiah 49:8-12 speaks of the state people are in who find Christ as their salvation and are delivered. Through the Apostle Paul, God is saying that He hears us in our time of need.
Accepted in the Greek means to be well accepted, favored. It describes a time of grace. In Hebrew, accepted refers to delight, good will, favor, grace. This verse speaks of the the day of salvation, which is now, today. The Bible says in Isaiah 55:6 to seek the Lord while He may be found and call upon Him while He is near.
We draw near to God by His Word and based on His Word. Now is the accepted time to see, learn, and experience the day of salvation, which is the healing, deliverance, safety, protection, and provision of our God. Our help comes from the Lord. As we call upon God, He saves us, delivers us, and shows us His salvation and blessing. Every good thing comes from the hand of God.
At a certain point, the day of salvation will pass, so call upon God while He may be found. As we do, we’ll find we are in a new day where every good gift comes down from the Father of Lights, in Whom there is no changing and not even a shadow because He is the light.
Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee. For, behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and gross darkness the people: but the Lord shall arise upon thee, and his glory shall be seen upon thee. Isaiah 60:1-2 (KJV)
His light shines and dispels all the darkness. We will see His glorious light upon us. We’ll see God’s glory in the land of the living.
Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)
The acceptable time is now. As we call, we will find God accepts us in Christ and displays His glory.
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Ephesians 1:6 (KJV)
