Strength, Stability, Security & Safety

Strength, Stability, Security & Safety

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. Psalm 18:2 (KJV)

Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me. For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name's sake lead me, and guide me. Psalm 31:2-3 (KJV)

The Psalms speak of God as our rock. A rock portrays strength and stability. The Hebrew word for rock speaks of a boulder or large rock. A boulder is huge and immovable. In the town where I grew up there was a large boulder that everyone called Big Rock. It was out in the middle of a field and kids and others were drawn to it to climb on it. Graffiti covered its sides, but it never moved. It was firm and established. As our rock, God is our strength. We have hope in God’s immovable strength, therefore we will not be moved or shaken. When God puts us somewhere, He is able to keep us there. We have no fear of losing our footing because God is our rock.

A rock means security and safety. When we stand on the solid rock of Christ, we are safe and secure in Him. For us to be moved, you would have to move God Himself! God is our rock and firm foundation. We can and will stand on Him, building our lives upon Him. When we build our lives on Him, the storms of life will not topple us. We won’t be blown over or blown away by the circumstances of life. We won’t drown because the floods cannot touch us as we’re safely perched upon the Rock. No storm can steal our security or safety because we’re founded upon Christ our Firm Foundation.

In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Psalm 62:7 (KJV)
