A Hearing Ear

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” Revelation 2:7 (New King James Version, NKJV)

Seven churches were mentioned in the book of Revelation, and there is one thing that Jesus said to each and every one: “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” This is as true a statement today as it was then- and it applies to the body of Christ corporately and individually.

First, we must have spiritual ears to hear, in other words, we must hear with our spirits what the Holy Spirit is saying. Truly, God speaks to us by His Holy Spirit and we must tune into our spirits to hear what He is telling us. When we still ourselves and focus on what is coming up from our innermost being, from the region of our stomach (John 7:38), we will begin to hear what Holy Spirit is saying.

As we listen, He will guide the church into God’s plan for the body of Christ. He will give us supernatural insight and grace in loving God and loving one another. He will guide us into all truth, and He will reveal Jesus to us.He will lead us to live right and to hate sin.

For the church to be the church and overcome, we must listen and obey God’s Word and Spirit. Holy Spirit will speak God’s Word to us so we will walk in God’s ways. His leadership will cause us to make wise decisions as the church. When we allow the Holy Spirit to move in and through us, the members of the body will not compete, but instead we will complete each other. As we hear and obey, we will overcome evil, share Jesus, and rule with Him.
