Avoiding Stagnation
When water sits still and has no movement, it gets stagnant. Stagnant water is good for nothing and after a while it smells. Nothing lives for long in stagnant water.. The same is true of our spiritual lives. We are not intended to stay still and do nothing. If we do, we become stagnant and we begin to stink spiritually.
We are to be rivers of God’s glory. The blessing and power of God is intended to flow through us to others. If we store up everything God sends to us, and we do not pour it out on others, we become stagnant. We are to be rivers, not ponds.
He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. John 7:38 (KJV)
Frist, we must flow with God’s spirit. We have to let the rivers of the Holy Spirit flow in and out of us through the use of our heavenly prayer language. This releases the power of God and we can lay hands on the sick, cast out demons, and walk in other signs and wonders. As we minister and do good to others, the river of God flows through us.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Psalm 1:2-3 (KJV)
As we spend time in the Word and in the presence of the Holy Spirit, we also enjoy the benefits of the living waters. We become trees, strong and healthy that are planted near the river of God and everything we do shall propsper and be blessed. If we fail to get in the Word, we surely become stagnant spiritually. Daily Bible reading and study is essential to avoiding stagnation. If we stop reading the Word, we stop growing.
If you’re feeling stuck spiritually, it may be that you’ve become inactive and are growing stagnant. Reach out to someone and share the love of God with them. Impart the Bible knowledge you’ve learned into someone else. Stand in faith for someone’s needs and meet people’s needs as God enables you to. Operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. There used to be a saying in Pentecostal circles, “Get under the spout where the glory comes out.” I think that should be rephrased to say, “Be the spout where the glory comes out!” Become a conduit of the grace and glory of God. As you do, you’ll be a source of Life, and you’ll never have to worry about becoming a nasty, stinky pond!
