The Psalm 140 Reality

The Psalm 140 Reality

O Lord, rescue me from evil people. Protect me from those who are violent, those who plot evil in their hearts and stir up trouble all day long. Their tongues sting like a snake; the venom of a viper drips from their lips. O Lord, keep me out of the hands of the wicked. Protect me from those who are violent, for they are plotting against me. The proud have set a trap to catch me; they have stretched out a net; they have placed traps all along the way. I said to the Lord, “You are my God!” Listen, O Lord, to my cries for mercy! O Sovereign Lord, the strong one who rescued me, you protected me on the day of battle. Lord, do not let evil people have their way.  Do not let their evil schemes succeed, or they will become proud. Let my enemies be destroyed by the very evil they have planned for me. Let burning coals fall down on their heads. Let them be thrown into the fire or into watery pits from which they can’t escape. Don’t let liars prosper here in our land. Cause great disasters to fall on the violent. But I know the Lord will help those they persecute; he will give justice to the poor. Surely righteous people are praising your name; the godly will live in your presence. Psalm 140:1-13 (New Living Translation, NLT) emphasis mine

David understood injustice. And he told God exactly how he felt about it. He decreed disaster upon his enemies and asked God to intervene and bring vindication upon the wicked. And God did. Consider what happened to David’s own son, Absalom, who turned against him. He was killed. God is merciful and gives people space to repent and does everything in His power to turn people’s hearts. However, when they harden their hearts and stand proudly against the Lord, He does allow calamity to come upon them.

In this day and at this time, sadly, people have hardened their hearts and resisted God with arrogance. God is just and He does justly. He does not allow the righteous to be downtrodden. He causes us to triumph.

Do not lose heart or become fearful. God is not done and His arm is not too short that it cannot save. When there is no way out, that is when God parts a Red Sea and allows His people to pass through on dry ground, while destroying the enemy at the same time. Amazing events are about to unfold on planet Earth. Psalm 140 is about to become a reality on every TV and cell phone screen. God is on the move, and the enemy is in trouble.
