Take No Anxious Thought- How?

Take No Anxious Thought- How?

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Matthew 6:25 (KJV)

What did Jesus mean by “take no thought?” Was He saying not to plan or prepare for your life or future needs? No, that’s not what He meant. Take no thought literally means do not be anxious. He wasn’t telling us not plan or prepare, but not to worry or be anxious about our lives and needs.

Is it really possible to live without worrying about the future? Well, if Jesus said it, then it must be doable. Thankfully, Jesus continues His discourse and doesn’t leaving us guessing about how to do this.

Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  Matthew 6:31 (KJV)

Ah, there it is. You take no thought by saying it. In other words, you don’t receive the worrisome thought that may come to you by saying it. We watch our thoughts, and we watch our words. We can cast down wrong thoughts with the words we speak. As we think on God’s Word, we will think right and therefore speak right. We will speak the Word of God rather than anxious or fearful words.

We can take a thought by what we say, so it stands to reason we can resist wrong thoughts by what we say. We guard our thoughts by guarding our words. As we think and speak God’s Words, we can rest in our heavenly Father’s loving care.
