How Do You See Yourself?

How Do You See Yourself?

Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” Genesis 1:26 (NIV)

The Bible says we were made in God’s image and likeness.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. II Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)

As born again believers we need to see ourselves the way God sees us. According to I John 1:19, when we confess our sins, God sees us as forgiven. God holds nothing against us. He is not mad at us. If He sees us as forgiven, then we need to see ourselves that way too.

The way that we see ourselves is the way we will act. if we see ourselves as defeated, we will act defeated. If we see ourselves sick, we will act like we are. If we see ourselves as unlikeable, we will act like no one likes us and wonder why we don’t have any friends. Rather than looking at what is wrong with us, we need to see what is right about us. Instead of seeing what is missing in our lives, we need to focus on what we have. And we need to see our abilities, not our limitations.

We must get in God’s Word and see what it says about us. Then, we can allow it to do a work in our hearts, minds, thoughts, and words to change how we view ourselves. We have to see ourselves the way God does. The enemy loves to tell us how much we lack and what we don’t do right. He will attack our thoughts and emotions with messages telling us that we don’t measure up. But, we can easily send him packing if we know for ourselves the truth of who we are- which is found in the Word of God.

The Bible has transformative power. It can supernaturally change us, and it can change how we think and feel. When we know who we really are in Christ we can have a positive self-image.
