Confidence

For the Lord will be your confidence. Proverbs 3:26 (NKJV)

We admire people with self-confidence; those who don’t seem to shrink back no matter what the circumstances. However, while self-confidence looks good on the surface, it doesn’t hold a candle to having confidence in God.

Self-confidence, or confidence in ourselves and our own abilities, is so limited. We can only do so much and we only know so much. When we put our trust and confidence in God, we are trusting in the all-knowing, all-sufficient One.

Self-confidence is deceptive because those with great self-confidence often think they are better than they really are. And when they hit a point where their own ability isn’t enough, their confidence can take a real blow.

Thus says the Lord, “Cursed is the man who trusts in and relies on mankind, Making [weak, faulty human] flesh his strength, And whose mind and heart turn away from the Lord. Jeremiah 17:5 (Amplified Bible, AMP)

Only when we have confidence in God, believing and knowing that He won’t let us down, can we be assured of victory in every situation. Don’t become so deceived by the talents and abilities that God gave you that you think you can do anything. It is good to be without fear and assured of victory, but only when we attribute that victory to God. God-confidence trumps self-confidence every time.

Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart And do not rely on your own insight or understanding. Proverbs 3:5 (Amplified Bible. AMP)
