Sweet or Sinister?

Today marks the high holy day for the devil and his followers. It is a day that glorifies death and darkness. It is pagan in origin and filled with the occult. It is a holiday dedicated to fellowship with the dead, or necromancy. On Tuesday, Jim wrote about the origins of Halloween. If you did not read it, please go back and do so- it shows the pagan roots of the celebration. It clearly shows that Halloween is not just harmless fun. It is dedicated to the worship of satan.

While you may not profess to be a witch or a follower of satan or any such thing, when you take part in Halloween festivities, you are, in actuality, participating in satan’s activities. I am going to be really blunt here. If you are more dedicated to holding on to things like Halloween than you are to following what the Bible clearly says about the occult, I question your commitment to the Lord.

The proconsul, an intelligent man, sent for Barnabas and Saul because he wanted to hear the word of God. But Elymas the sorcerer (for that is what his name means) opposed them and tried to turn the proconsul from the faith. Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? Acts 13:7-10 (New International Version, NIV)

A number who had practiced sorcery brought their scrolls together and burned them publicly. When they calculated the value of the scrolls, the total came to fifty thousand drachmas. In this way the word of the Lord spread widely and grew in power. Acts 19:19-20 (NIV)

These verses show us the seriousness of becoming connected with the occult. These people saw the danger such things presented. That is why they burned their scrolls and other implements of occultic practice. The Apostles made it clear that being affiliated with these evil things was not acceptable to the Lord.

What friendship does God’s temple have with demons? For indeed, we are the temple of the living God, just as God has said: I will make my home in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people. II Corinthians 6:16 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

My children, have nothing to do with false gods or idols. I John 5:21 (Worldwide English New Testament, WE)

We are to put serious distance between ourselves and the things of the devil. To play around with things like Halloween, horoscopes, ouija boards, etc., is dangerous and full of compromise. Ask yourself what Jesus would do with Halloween? Would He participate? Of course not! And neither should we.

Those who are shallow, wishy-washy Christian that want to be like the world will go ahead and celebrate Halloween. They’ll dress their children up like the very demonic creatures that Jesus defeated when He died and went to hell for us. These lukewarm believers will lend their support to the celebration of death instead of standing with the Lord of Life. But if you are serious about your faith, be strong and choose to stand out from the world. We can have much more fun and enjoy life much better without the influences of the enemy.

Don’t develop partnerships with those who are not followers of Jesus’ teachings. For what real connection can exist between righteousness and rebellion? How can light participate in darkness? II Corinthians 6:14 (The Voice, VOICE)
