The Highest Authority

The Highest Authority

What God says, God will do. You can count on the written Word. It’s reliable, trustworthy; you can stake your life and eternity on it.

Every Scripture is God-breathed (given by His inspiration) and profitable for instruction, for reproof and conviction of sin, for correction of error and discipline in obedience, [and] for training in righteousness (in holy living, in conformity to God’s will in thought, purpose, and action), II Timothy 3:16 (Amplified Bible Classic Edition, AMPC)

Scripture is the very life and Word of God. We cannot live spiritually without God’s Word, because it affects all areas of our lives; our spirits, our souls, our bodies, our relationships, our finances, etc. The Bible is without error, and every promise and prophecy it contains will be brought to pass by God.

And so we have the prophetic word confirmed, which you do well to heed as a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts; knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit. II Peter 1:19-21 (NKJV)

All Scripture was given by God directly to men, who wrote it down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Today, God speaks His written Word to our hearts, as well as the prophetic Word. And every prophetic Word will agree and line up with the written Word. I recall that one prophetic Word we received stated that we would never lack for anything. We knew that this particular prophetic Word lined up with the written Word- for example Philippians 4:19, which tells me that my God shall supply all my need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Therefore, we knew it was a prophetic Word that we could pair with the written Word and use to stand in faith for our needs to always be met.

So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, but it shall accomplish what I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it. Isaiah 55:11 (NKJV)

The Lord said to me, “You have seen correctly, for I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” Jeremiah 1:12 (New International Version, NIV)

As the Word is spoken, God sets out to bring it to pass. Jesus said in Matthew 5:18 that heaven and earth will not pass away until every Word is fulfilled- every t crossed and every i dotted.

The earth and sky will wear out and fade away before one word I speak loses its power or fails to accomplish its purpose.” Matthew 24:35 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

The same God who put the sun in the sky and spoke the worlds into existence, has spoken His Word and had it written down for our benefit. As we act on His Word, He will bring it to pass. The Word is a sure foundation upon which to build our lives. Abraham chose to believe God’s Word- he took it as final authority and we should too.

He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God,  and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.  And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him,  but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, Romans 4:20-24 (NKJV)

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was in the beginning with God.  All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. John 1:1-3 (NKJV)

God’s Word is the highest authority. His Word prevails when all else fails, for it is as eternal as God Himself
