Confession: I Read My Own Book

Confession: I Read My Own Book

But every good endowment that we possess and every complete gift that we have received must come from above, from the Father of all lights, with whom there is never the slightest variation or shadow of inconsistency. James 1:17 (J.B. Phillips New Testament, PHILLIPS)

I wrote and self-published a book a few years ago. Every so often I pick my own book up and read it, and it never fails to surprise me what is in it. I know that sounds strange and maybe even egotistical, but bear with me. What surprises me is the wisdom and insight in those pages that I know is beyond what I personally possess. The book has a unique perspective and is really encouraging- even to its author.

Reading it reminds me how God can take something ordinary and really make it something special. I am just a normal, ordinary person, but I have to say that the words in that book are not. They are filled with creativity and understanding that did not come from my human mind. Such things can come only from the heart and mind of God.

When we take whatever we are able to do, no matter how commonplace it may seem to us, and offer it to God, He can transform it into something spectacular. He makes it something that others will take notice of. He places His anointing and favor on it and it becomes a creative work of genius (His genius of course). You might say He takes our natural ability and puts His supernatural spin on it. That is why our daily lives and our ordinary existence is something we are to give to God- He can use anything for His glory and for the benefit of the Kingdom.

Maybe you can bake. Bake for God- and the tasty treats you make for others will take on His anointing. Can you fix cars? Then dedicate that skill to God and the cars you repair will carry His supernatural power. Can you care for children? Care for them in the Name of Jesus and those children will be impacted for eternity. No skill or gift is too small. God can use it. In other words, God can use YOU.

Yes, I read my own book- not to pat myself on the back, but to sit in awe of what God can do through me. If you will look at your own abilities as divinely given by God, you will be exceptionally pleased with what He can do through you. What a joy it is to be a tool in the Master’s hand!
