The Word and the Spirit

The Word and the Spirit

Zechariah 4:6 (KJV) says:

Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord of hosts.

The same pairing in this scripture is seen throughout the Bible: God's Word and God's Spirit.  God consistently speaks, guides, comforts, answers, and works in this way.

For example, in the creation account found in Genesis 1, God spoke the Word and the Holy Spirit brought it to pass.  As we speak God's Word, His Spirit will bring it to pass in our lives.

Jesus came to earth when God spoke it and the Holy Spirit did it.  In His earthly ministry, Jesus was inspired to speak the Word to heal the sick, cast out devils, and raise the dead.  He spoke and the Holy Spirit did the work.  That is how we can do the same works Jesus did.  We must simply follow Jesus's example, using the same formula He did.  We will accomplish great things, but not by our might or power, but by the Word and Spirit of God.
