The Number 8
Today is 8-8-26 (2+6=8). Since the date has so many 8’s, let’s look at the significance of 8 in the Bible.
The number 8 references new beginnings. There are seven days in a week, and the next day, the eighth day, is the first day beginning a new week. We saw this same pattern in creation. everything was created in six days, God rested on the seventh day, and then the eighth day began a new week.
Today’s date contains three 8’s if you add together the 2 and 6 from the year. Three represents the Trinity. The Trinity has new beginnings for us. 8+8+8= 24. I Chronicles 24 speaks of the division of the priests. There were 24 of them.
The Greek word for Jesus adds up to 888 in the Gematria. Jesus is the One who makes all things new.
In Revelation 4:4-10 there were 24 elders. Thus, 24 speaks of the priesthood. We are called kings and priests (Revelation 5:10). It also connects to government since 12 represents government and 24 is 2X12. We also see heavenly government and worship. As we worship God, He reveals His governmental rule in our lives. This even affects earthly government as well. When heaven comes to earth, it is reflected in all aspects of society.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10 (KJV)
The number 8 also represents resurrection: new birth, new life, new creation, new things, and new beginnings.
Moses and David ordered the tabernacle and temple after the pattern God gave them for worship. So, as we receive revelation from God by His Spirit, based on His Word, we will receive instruction about how to build God’s church now according to God’s pattern, where the church will rule with God’s governmental authority.
We are to make earth like heaven. Where sin abounds, grace abounds much more. Overcome evil with good, enforcing Christ’s rule now until everything is under the church’s feet (Ephesians 1:17-23). As we do, God will birth new things. We’re given new beginnings and people will receive new life through the new birth.
No matter what is happening, God has new beginnings today and everyday. His mercies are new every morning.
