Are We Ever Truly Alone?
And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. Genesis 2:18 (KJV)
The word alone could be divided into 2 parts and stated as “all one.” It is not good for us to be alone, or all one, or by ourselves. Why? We are created for companionship, fellowship, and relationship. We need people we can relate with. God made a help meet for man, or a helper fit or suited to him; a companion.
Yet, we must not rely entirely on other people to meet all our needs. Only God can do that. Before man existed, God was. While man exists, God is. And God will exist forever and ever into the future. Therefore, we must look to God to be our ultimate Help and rely on our Helper, the Holy Spirit. God sent Jesus to save us and help us when we could not help ourslves. And Jesus was forsaken at the cross so God could commit to never leaving us.
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5 (KJV) emphasis mine
Christ was forsaken so we would never be. The writer of Hebrews, believed to be the Apostle Paul by many, took this from Deuteronomy 31.
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee…. And the Lord, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. Deuteronomy 31:6, 8 (KJV) emphasis mine
God will not fail nor forsake us. He says it twice in that passage. When He repeats something, He is emphasizing it. He does this to reassure us. When we feel forsaken or alone, God is with us because He is always there, and He cares. He accepts us.
To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. Ephesians 1:6 (KJV)
God accepts us in Christ. We are seen by God as being in His Beloved, or in His dear Son, Jesus Christ. Because of this, we can know He is with us, even if we feel alone. We are One with Jesus in a divine connection of friendship and companionship. We are His body. Jesus knows how to connect with His own body. There is never a disconnect between the Head and His body. You can trust Jesus to always be with you.
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. For the body is not one member, but many. I Corinthians 12:12-14 (KJV)
God placed us in the body and we have a family in the body of Christ. We can fit, flow, and function together with other members wherever we may be.
A times, we are by ourselves, and this is healthy. In that time of aloneness, get with God and enter into your oneness with Him. Use the time to draw near to Him in study of the Word, prayer, worship, and intimate fellowship. We may feel alone, but we are always accompanied by God.
