New Year, New Things
Each year, we seek God for a word or phrase for the new year. As we enter 2025, I believe God has given us the word “new” to describe overall what the year will bring.
Remember ye not the former things, neither consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert. Isaiah 43:18-19 (KJV)
This tells us not to dwell on the things of the past because God says He will do a new thing. As good or bad as the former things were, we cannot get stuck there. We are to get past them and move on. How do we do this? We do it by replacing the old thoughts and memories with new thoughts and visions of better things. We can’t move into the new if we’re dwelling on the old. It prevents us from receiving the new and from moving forward. Thank God for the good things He did, but praise Him for the new things He will do.
God says it springs forth now; it is happening now. He wants us to live in the now, and not in yesterday. We are to live in and make the most of today. God gives us new things so we’ll have a new hope and new vision for our present and future.
And the Lord answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Habakkuk 2:2-3 (KJV)
God wants us to plan and to write our plan, provided that we got our plan from God. His plan is best and is the only one that will work and will last. Write the vision down from God. Make it plain and simple. Work with it daily. Keep it in front of you and enjoy the fruit it produces along the way until the full vision manifests.
When you hit rough spots, look to God. He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert. This speaks of provision and fruitfulness. What you do will prosper and succeed as you follow His plan. Stick with it until you finish, then enjoy the fruit of your labor. So, let go of the old and embrace the new. Know when a new thing comes to pass, God will start yet another new thing. It happens over and over again. He makes all things new. And this year is bringing an abundance of new things.
