Pray To Overcome Temptation

And when he was at the place, he said unto them, Pray that ye enter not into temptation. Luke 22:40 (KJV)

The word temptation means trials inteneded to prove, a cause or occasion of enticement. Temptation will come. There’s no doubt about it, the devil will bring temptation. However, we don’t have to enter in, or give into, temptation.

We should avoid places where we’ll be tempted. Yet, we may still find ourselves in situations where there’s temptation. We need to be prayed up so we don’t get laid up by giving into temptation.

Temptation starts in the mind, so don’t let the devil play mind games with you. By this, he is setting a trap to snare you. Prayer will help you to escape the traps of the enemy. Psalm 91 says God delivers us from the trap of the hunter, or the devil.

And said unto them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. Luke 22:46 (KJV)

We must be alert and in prayer to keep ourselves built up. If we don’t pray, we will be much more likely to give in to temptation. When we pray, we strengthen our inner man, lining our soul (mind, will and emotions) up with God’s will, so our spirits will rise up and take charge of our soul and body. As a result, we won’t give in to temptation.

Bear in mind that temptation itself is not a sin, so don’t let the devil shame you if temptation comes your way. However, when we yield to temptation, it is sin. So, pray and speak God’s Word, and you will overcome temptation instead of temptation overcoming you.
