The Mind of Christ- Part 2

For who hath known the mind of the Lord, that he may instruct him? but we have the mind of Christ. I Corinthians 2:16 (KJV)

The word mind in this verse is the Greek word nous, which refers to one’s ability to think, reason, and decide.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Philippians 2:5 (KJV)

The word mind in this verse is phroneo, which means to be minded in a certain way.

Although the word for mind is different in thse verses, both are translated to tell us that we are to have the mind of Christ. We are to “let this mind be in you,” in other words, we are to think the same way Christ did. The next several verses in Philippians 2 give an example pf the mind of Christ.

Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: Philippians 2:5-6 (KJV)

Jesus is God and equal to God. Genesis 1:26 tells us we are made in the image of God. When born-again, we’re one with God as the body of Christ. As part of that, we think and act like God.

But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: Philippians 2:7 (KJV)

Jesus did not seek a reputation, but He let God take care of His reputation. Instead He became a man that served, and we’re to do the same. Our ind is to be on serving and not on self-promotion.

And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Philippians 2:8 (KJV)

Jesus humbled Himself to die for others. Our mindset should be on dying to self and serving so that others might live. Jesus was obedient. Hebrews says that He learned obedience by what He suffered. Just as it did Jesus, it will cost us everything to obey the Lord to fulfill His plan and will.

Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Philippians 2:9-11 (KJV)

That is the reward for walking in the mind and attitude of Christ: all will bow and confess that Jesus is Lord. Jesus has given us His name. And as we bow and declare that Jesus is Lord, we rule with Him in this life and the life to come. The mind of Christ leads us the the way everlasting and brings great rewards. So, let this mind be in you!
