Stop Stressing and Start Trusting

Lord, my heart is meek before you. I don’t consider myself better than others. I’m content to not pursue matters that are over my head—such as your complex mysteries and wonders—that I’m not yet ready to understand. I am humbled and quieted in your presence. Like a contented child who rests on its mother’s lap, I’m your resting child and my soul is content in you. O people of God, your time has come to quietly trust, waiting upon the Lord now and forever. Psalm 131:1-3 (The Passion Translation, TPT)

When we try to figure things out that are clearly above our heads- particularly things that only God knows- it simply creates stress and anxiety for us. Reasoning and wondering excessively about the cause of certain events or situations can serve to make matters worse because it frustrates us. If we can let go of the need to know why things are the way they are and choose to trust God, we will have much more peace.

God clearly knows all things and He is able to give us the answers- when and if we need them. Trust is the key to peace- and to gaining any information we may need. Quit struggling and striving to figure it all out, and you’ll feel much better. Often, when we choose to relax and let God handle things, He will tell us the information we were desperately trying to sort out ourselves.

Many times, the enemy will try to get us wonder and question about things, just to distract us from the things of God. He knows that if we begin to ask why, we will become irritated and aggravated with our lack of understanding. He uses reasoning and logic as weapons to keep us bound up in distrust and fear. See his distractions for what they are- deceitful attempts to undermine our relationship with God.

To be perfectly honest, there are some things we will not know or understand in this life, nor do we need to. Some of it is simply none of our business. God knows- and that is enough. As believers, we operate strictly on a need-to-know basis. So stop stressing and start trusting. The Lord who created and holds the universe together by His Word is not going to let you down. He will tell you what you need to know, and the rest- well, just let it go. That’s called faith, my friend.
